The London Mathematical Society would like to congratulate Professor Julia Gog (University of Cambridge) on receiving an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, ‘for services to academia and the COVID-19 response’.
Professor Gog is a specialist in mathematical biology and the study of infectious diseases. She has played a major role in providing expert advice and insight to the government’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), during the current COVID-19 pandemic, in the area of infectious disease modelling. She has also been an active member of the steering committee of the Royal Society’s Rapid Assistance in Modelling the Pandemic (RAMP), initiative bringing together modelling expertise from a diverse range of disciplines to support the pandemic modelling
Professor Gog has been a member of the Society since 2016 and has made significant contributions to the work of the LMS. She presented the 2014 LMS Popular Lectures and was the LMS-NZMS Forder Lecturer in 2016. She was awarded an LMS Whitehead Prize in 2017.
