The London Mathematical Society was formed in 1865 and it acquired its Royal Charter in 1965.
At the 2019 Annual General Meeting, Members voted to amend the Charter, Statutes and By-Laws (known collectively as the Standing Orders). The changes to the Charter and Statutes required approval by the Privy Council, which was granted on 16 December 2020.
At the Society General Meeting on 2 July 2021, Members voted to amend the By-Laws, creating the Council role of Member-at-Large (Women and Diversity). These changes did not require approval by the Privy Council and were implemented immediately.
