The London Mathematical Society (LMS) would like extend its warmest congratulations to LMS members Professor Ken Brown, Professor Peter Donnelly and Peter Ransom on the honours they received in the 2019 Queen’s Birthday Honours List. Others to be honoured include mathematicians Professor Duncan Lawson and Dr Diane Crann, and statistician Professor Sylvia Richardson.
Professor Brown receives a CBE for services to the Mathematical Sciences. He has given long service to the LMS in many capacities, dating back to 1992. He was a member of LMS Council from 1992-2001 and Vice-President from 1997 to 1999 and from 2009 to 2017; Chair of Research Policy Committee 2010-2017; Chair of Personnel Committee 1999-2001; Editorial Adviser 2002-06. He has also given extensive other service to the UK mathematics community and has been a key figure in developing the Mathematical Sciences in Scotland.
Professor Donnelly, Chief Executive, Genomics plc and Professor of Statistical Science, University of Oxford receives a knighthood for services to the understanding of human genetics in disease.
Dr Crann, Peter Ransom and Professor Lawson all receive MBEs. Dr Crann for services to engineering, Mr Ransom for voluntary service to mathematics education and Professor Lawson for services to mathematics in higher education. Professor Sylvia Richardson receives a CBE for services to medical statistics.
Both Dr Crann and Mr Ransom have served the LMS in the field of education, Dr Crann as a member of the Education Sub-Committee and Mr Ransom as a member of the Education Committee.
