Professor Sir John Ball FRS (University of Oxford) past-President (1996-1998) of the London Mathematical Society has received the 2018 King Faisal International Prize (Science). The Society extends its congratulations to Sir John on receiving this award. The Prize is awarded by the King Faisal Foundation and the Science subcategories cover a range of disciplines, alternating between physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics, with the Prize for Science first awarded in 1984. The Prize is awarded to individuals who have ‘carried out and published original scientific research on the prize’s topic, with major benefits to humanity, and meeting one or more of the prize’s objectives as determined by the respective Selection Committee’.
