Cecil King Travel Scholarships for Early Career Mathematicians

Application deadline: 15 November 2022

Applications are now invited for two LMS Cecil King Travel Scholarships in 2023. The scholarship is designed to support study or research abroad for early career mathematicians, typically for a period of three months. £6,000 is awarded for each scholarship, one to a mathematician in any area of mathematics and the second to a mathematician whose research is applied in a discipline other than mathematics.

Mathematics A-level results released

A level results were released today as students across England, Wales and Northern Ireland received grades for the first formal exams since 2019. Scottish Higher results were released on 9 August.

The LMS extends its congratulations to all students receiving their results, particularly in light of the ongoing difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and its impact on both students and teachers.

'The bedrock of all sciences': letters in The Times and Guardian

Letters by LMS President Ulrike Tillmann reiterating the importance of investment in mathematics have been published in The Times and Guardian.

The letters followed the publication of a House of Lords Science and Technology report on the government’s global ambitions for science and technology, which include making the UK a 'science and technology superpower'.

Emmy Noether Fellowships 2022: second call for applications

Application deadline: Friday 7 October 2022

The LMS Emmy Noether Fellowship Grants are intended for mathematicians who are either re-establishing their research programme after returning from a major break associated with caring responsibilities, or who require support for their research programme while dealing with significant ongoing caring responsibilities.

vICM 2022

The ICM 2022 will take place as a fully virtual event over 6–14 July 2022. The schedule is available here. Lectures will take place between 9:00–18:00 CEST every day. Particiption in the virtual International Congress of Mathematicians 2022 (ICM 2022) is free and open to all, but requires prior registration.
