The London Mathematical Society has elected the following people to Honorary Membership of the Society in 2022:
Professor Jennifer Tour Chayes, University of California, Berkeley, USA
Professor Vladimir Drinfeld, Harry Pratt Judson Distinguished Professor at the University of Chicago, Illinois, USA

As many members will know, in January 2020 the government and UKRI announced £300 million in additional funding for mathematical sciences, of which £124 million has been allocated so far. In March of this year, via the Protect Pure Maths campaign, the UK’s mathematical societies called for the £300 million to be honoured.
The Prime Minister’s Council for Science and Technology has launched a campaign to recruit 3 new members to the Council. The campaign is open for applications until Monday 20th June.
Via the Protect Pure Maths Campaign, LMS President Ulrike Tillmann will be speaking at the Science and Technology Select Committee oral evidence session on Diversity in STEM today at 11am. She will address the chronic underrepresentation of women at every level of mathematics education, and talk about the challenges in tackling misconceptions of mathematics.
