This Black History Month, we are celebrating the extraordinary contribution of Black mathematicians towards the advancement of mathematics.
For Black History Month 2024, we are asking a hand-picked selection of prominent living Black mathematicians what Black History Month means to them, as well as their Black maths hero.

We are very disappointed with the Government’s withdrawal of their commitment of £6m over three years to fund a new National Academy focussed on Mathematical Sciences.
The Royal Society has today published its recommendations for a radical reform of maths education from early years and throughout compulsory education, to address the growing need for data skills in the workplace and in everyday life.
The Councils of the IMA and the London Mathematical Society are delighted to announce that the 2024 Christopher Zeeman Medal is awarded to Brady Haran. The Christopher Zeeman Medal is the UK award dedicated to recognising excellence in the communication of mathematics.
An event to present Brady with his award is currently being arranged and details will be published on the societies websites, magazines and social media.

The London Mathematical Society has elected the following people to Honorary Membership of the Society in 2024:
Professor Sylvia Bozeman (Spelman College, USA)
Professor Gregory Margulis (Yale University, USA)
Professor Shigefumi Mori (Kyoto University, Japan)

A-level results were released today for students across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Scottish Higher results were released on 6 August. The LMS congratulates all students and their teachers for all their hard work represented in the results today and extends its warmest wishes to the students for the next step in their journeys.
The Protect Pure Maths Campaign has relaunched as the Campaign for Mathematical Sciences (CaMS). The campaign, which is managed by the London Mathematical Society, aims to advance the mathematical sciences for discovery, innovation and the economy, by supporting engagement and providing specialist advice in maths policy.
The LMS Education Committee is pleased to announce two new Holgate Session Leaders, Niki Kalaydzhieva (based in London) and Jenny Sharp (based in Plymouth).
